OnePlus One Invite! Competition!

I am pleased to announce that I have a OnePlus One invite to purchase a 64GB Sandstone Black model.

The competition is fairly simple: to enter all you have to do is follow me on Twitter and retweet my tweet embedded below. Kim Dotcom's Mega, I've signed up [Updated]

Kim Dotcom's new service called Mega has launched in beta. Mega is an encrypted online storage service, similar to Microsoft Skydrive, Google Drive and Dropbox. I've signed up and will post a few screenshots.

After sign up it takes a couple of minutes to set up your encryption key, and once that is done you are ready to rock and roll!

The Mega service gives you 50 GB of storage space for free, and there is the option to upgrade to one of three "Pro" tiers.

Interestingly the pricing of the Pro services is in Euros (not in US dollars or pounds sterling). I'm going to upload some files to Mega and see how the free service performs. 

I'm interested in seeing how Mega compares to Google Drive, my current favourite cloud storage service. So far I have had no problems with Mega and I've been using it from my Samsung Chromebook. I'll also be trying to pass files directly from my Google Drive directly to Mega to see what happens.

[Update] I've noticed that trying to upload files directly from Google Drive doesn't work. Mega tells me it would take an infinite amount of time and sings me the Adam West Batman tune.

EE's UK 4G tariffs leak: :-0

I've been toying with the idea of switching my personal mobile phone contract to EE, the first UK 4G provider, since I discovered that Edinburgh will be covered from launch. This morning while reading The Verge I saw the table of the leaked tariffs and ended up making an impression of OMG cat.

The tariffs seem to be extortionate  but then if you think about it as well as limited amount of data you do get unlimited calls and unlimited texts. Here's the table of the tariffs, as compiled by the clever Ben Kersey from The Verge.

Well, that was an inertial dampener on my rush to be a 4G early adopter... I think I'll wait until there is more competition on the 4G market before switching, especially because for less than half the entry level tariff on EE I can get All You can Eat Data from Three UK.
